Terms & Privacy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

HolidayHouseLights.com (“the site”, “we”, “us”) is run by Artrageous Advertising based in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. By using the site, you agree to these terms.

Using the map

  • The map is for finding and enjoying holiday light displays. Please visit respectfully: stay on public sidewalks and streets, don’t block driveways, keep noise down, and never enter private property.
  • Drive safely. Don’t use your phone while driving. Let a passenger navigate, or pull over before using the map.
  • Display details come from the public and may be out of date. A display may be switched off, changed or gone. We can’t guarantee that any listing is accurate.
  • Directions are provided by Google Maps or Apple Maps and are subject to their terms.

Submitting a display

Anyone can share a display that can be seen from a public street, whether it’s their own or one they spotted. When you submit a display, you confirm that:

  • you took the photo, or you have permission to share it;
  • the photo was taken from a public street or sidewalk and shows only the outside of the display;
  • the photo doesn’t show people’s faces, licence plates or other personal details;
  • nothing you submit is unlawful, offensive or misleading.

We may blur, crop or decline a photo that shows people, vehicles or anything personal.

You agree that the photo, description, display name and street address will be shown publicly on the site, including on the map. You keep ownership of your photo, and you give us permission to show, resize and crop it on the site and in promotion of the site, until it is removed.

Every submission is reviewed before it appears. We may edit, decline or remove any listing at any time, for any reason.

Removing a listing

Anyone who owns or lives at a listed property can ask us to remove it, at any time and for any reason, using the Report or Remove a Listing page or by emailing [email protected]. We remove these listings promptly, usually within 3 days, and don’t ask why.

Likes and the Leaderboard

You can like each display once per season. We may remove likes that look unfair, such as many likes from one connection.

Sponsors, coupons and links

The site shows sponsor banners, sponsor offers and links to other websites. Coupons are offered by the sponsors themselves, on their own conditions; please check with the sponsor before using one. We aren’t responsible for sponsors’ offers, products or websites.

Liability

The site is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or harm arising from using the site, using a coupon, or visiting any listed display.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

We collect as little personal information as we can, and we never sell it.

What we collect, and why

When you submit a display: your email address, used only to review your submission and send you two emails (a thank-you, and a note when it’s live). Only our team sees it. The display’s address, photo, description and name are public, because they’re shown on the map and in the gallery.

When you contact us or report a listing: your name, email and (optionally) phone number, used only to reply to you or deal with your report. Only our team sees them.

To stop spam: when you send any form, we keep a scrambled code made from your internet address. We never store the address itself.

When you like a display: your browser is given a random code (a cookie called hhl_voter) so each display can be liked once per browser each season. We keep only scrambled versions of that code and of your internet address. Which displays you liked is also remembered in your own browser.

When you ask for a sponsor’s coupon: your email address, used to send you the coupon code and to count how many people asked for each offer. Sponsors only ever see the counts, never your email. Unless you ticked the box asking for our news, we delete your email 60 days after your request.

If you tick “email me news and updates”: we keep your email and the date and wording you agreed to, so we can send you Holiday House Lights news. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Photo location data: photos taken on phones often contain hidden GPS coordinates and camera details. We remove all of this automatically before any photo is saved.

Your saved route

If you build a driving route, it’s saved only in your own browser so it’s still there when you come back. When the site draws the road route, it sends the list of displays (not your location) to our server to work out the roads. If you choose to start from where you are, your location stays on your device and is only used to order the stops. Clear your browser data to remove a saved route.

Services we use

  • Google Maps shows the map, looks up addresses and plans routes. Using the map means you also agree to the Google Maps Terms of Service (maps.google.com/help/terms_maps) and the Google Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
  • Cloudflare protects and speeds up the site, and its Turnstile check helps stop spam. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy (cloudflare.com/privacypolicy).
  • Google Tag Manager [DESCRIBE WHAT YOU MEASURE, e.g. “counts page visits and sponsor banner views and clicks, without identifying you”]. [HOW VISITORS CAN SAY NO, e.g. “You can choose which cookies to allow using the cookie banner.”]
  • Email is sent through [EMAIL PROVIDER]. News sign-ups are sent through MailChimp

How long we keep it

  • Published displays stay until they’re removed. Displays that aren’t lit in a given year may be hidden rather than deleted, so they can return next season.
  • Declined or removed submissions are deleted within about 30 days.
  • Contact messages and reports are kept indefinitely.
  • Coupon request emails are kept indefinitely.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to remove a listing, by emailing [email protected]. If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (oipc.ab.ca)
